Referrals and affiliates
ShopMCP runs two share-and-earn programs. They sit side by side, are tracked separately, and you can use one or the other — each link is attributed independently.
The short version
Referral program
Built into every ShopMCP workspace. Open Settings → Referrals to find your stable /r/<slug> link, ready-to-send templates for Slack DMs, LinkedIn posts, X threads, and a live stats tile that tracks visits, signups, qualified conversions, and credits earned.
- What you earn. One free month of your current subscription per qualified signup, applied as Stripe credit and consumed automatically on your next invoice.
- What “qualified” means. The referred user signs up through your link andpays for their first month on a paid plan. Trial-only signups are tracked but don't release the credit yet.
- Attribution window. 30 days from the click. If the visitor signs up later than that, the link no longer attributes.
- One reward per referred user. If the same person signs up multiple times we still only credit once.
- No payout in cash. The reward is always Stripe credit on your account — handy for compounding free months, not for cashing out.
Best for: existing customers who want to lower their own bill by inviting friends and peers.
Affiliate program
A separate public program for creators, agencies, and marketing partners who want to earn ongoing cash. Run on affiliates.shop-mcp.app — sign up there, get approved, then drop your affiliate link anywhere.
- What you earn. 10% recurring commission on every paid month the referred customer stays subscribed. Paid out in cash, not credit.
- Cookie window, payout threshold, and clawback rules.Governed by the affiliate program's own terms — review them on the affiliate dashboard when you sign up.
- Approval required. The affiliate program is approval-gated to keep attribution clean and avoid incentivised signup farms.
Best for: people with an audience — newsletter writers, agency owners with a client roster, ecommerce content creators.
Can I do both?
Yes — they live in separate systems and you can hold accounts on both. What you can't do is have a single signup attributed to both programs at once. Each visitor is attributed to whichever link they clicked, and each customer is rewarded once.
Practically: most customers use the in-app referral link to invite peers (free month off their bill) and only sign up as an affiliate if they have an audience that justifies cash payouts.
What voids a reward
- Self-referrals. Signing up through your own link with a different email. Attribution is voided and repeat attempts can result in suspension.
- Incentivised signups. Paying or otherwise compensating someone to sign up through your link.
- Fraudulent attribution.Anything that misleads the user about what they're signing up for, or that fakes a click-through.
- Refunds and chargebacks. If the referred customer charges back or refunds within the first month, the credit / commission is reversed.
The full legal framing is in the Terms of Service, section 13.
